Biography of Eileen Sheahan

Eileen Deborah Sheahan was born on 17 November 2001 in Evanston, Illinois. Sheahan was the daughter of Patricia (Patti) and Terrence (TJ) Sheahan and the sister of Erin, Margaret and Michael. Eileen attended grade school at St. Joan of Arc in Evanston and Loyola Academy in Wilmette. Eileen was kind, intelligent and very outgoing. Her community and university involved her as a student ambassador and Alpha Phi sorority member. She loved adventure and travel, she even spent a semester studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain.

The Ski Accident

Eileen was skiing on the Exhibition run at Aspen Highlands in Colorado when she struck a tree on January 27, 2024. At Aspen Valley Hospital she was pronounced dead on arrival despite prompt medical attention. It happened on a particularly challenging part of a ski run – something that skiers of all levels can get into, just like Eileen.

Impact of Her Death and Reactions

Eileen’s death rattled her community and beyond. Her family said she was an inspiration and a light to many lives through her kindness and compassion. “She accomplished so much in her short life. She is an inspiration to us and an example of a life well lived at only 22 years old,” her mother, Patti Sheahan, said.

The University of Michigan community mourned her loss too. The university associate vice president for student life and dean of students Laura Blake Jones issued a statement offering sympathy to Eileen’s family and friends. The university helped her roommates, sorority sisters and other close friends with emotional support and counseling.

Celebrating the Life of Eileen Sheahan

Family and friends gathered on February 4th 2024 at Donnellan Family Funeral Home in Skokie Illinois to celebrate Eileen Sheehan’s life. The following day her funeral mass was held at Old Saint Patrick’s Church in Chicago.

Sheahan’s family established the Eileen Sheaghan Memorial Scholarships at St. Joan of Arc and Loyola Academy in her honor. These scholarships help ensure her kindness and generosity will benefit future generations.

A Life of Love and Kindness

Eileen’s passing also reminds us all of the value of life and being in the moment. Her kindness, laughter and support still touch those who knew her. Family and close friends of hers mourn her death but rejoice in the happiness she brought into their lives.
