Winndye Jenkins was born on August 12, 1950, in a Christian family. She is of African-American descent, although her early life remains out of the public eye.
Jenkins has found her way into the limelight for her fight for her husband’s freedom. Jenkins and her husband’s lawyer Justin Moore started the Larry Hoover Project which aimed at getting Larry clemency or a soft program for his crimes.
However, the prison staff thought the move was to continue being a gang leader, and his request was not granted. Jenkins’s husband has served over 9000 hours in solitary confinement.
